Health Care Aide Regulation Information
The College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA), the Government of Alberta, and Health Care Aides (HCAs) across Alberta are working together to make a smooth shift towards regulation.
On December 9, 2020, the Health Statutes Amendment Act received royal assent. Bill 46 made substantial amendments to the Health Professions Act, including the future regulation of Health Care Aides in Alberta.
As a result of these changes, the CLPNA will be responsible for regulating Health Care Aides as a profession. The regulation of HCAs in Alberta will be groundbreaking, as no other jurisdiction in Canada regulates HCAs as a distinct health profession.
